Pleiades Robotics is a start-up in robotics, and we are launching our first product, a smart drone called Spiri. We design and manufacture the robot, and we also develop software, services and other systems for it. Our robots are intended to work closely and autonomously with humans in industry, government, science, in varied applications. We are a start-up growing quickly, with job openings in computer science, engineering, operations, finance, sales, support, public relations, marketing, and more. We are hiring for our head office in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the Atlantic coast of Canada. This is a demanding workplace in which one is expected to learn and strive.

Computer Scientist, Robotics and Deep Learning

Report to the CEO on research and development advancing Spiri's capabilities. Projects underway include optimization of algorithms using the GPU, incorporation of SLAM and other data into navigational systems, and detection and perception projects in machine vision. The system consists of multiple processing centers: a flight control board running real-time OS, a TX2 running Ubuntu Linux with ROS, and a GPU built on CUDA cores. Per gram, Spiri is the most powerful flying robot in its class and your job is to use that power to make Spiri more and more alive.


  • Write and test code, in simulation, in the lab, and in the world;
  • Maintain and improve the code base;
  • Liaise as appropriate with external researchers, including university research partners and open source groups;
  • Extend the applications reach of Spiri;
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of Spiri.

Employment requirements

  • A master's degree in computer science or similar experience in programming;
  • Experience with Linux, C/C++, Python.

Employment qualifications

  • Experience with Git, ROS, embedded systems;
  • Experience with PX4, MAVROS, ORB_SLAM2, OpenCV and CUDA;
  • Experience with open source development;
  • Experience with electronics, signals processing, radios;
  • Certification or significant experience in drone piloting;
  • Fluency in English and at least one other human language.
