Our client, the Government of Manitoba, is seeking a highly experienced executive leader who will lead the department in its mission to support healthy, safe, economically and socially sustainable Indigenous and northern communities.  Working closely with the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Relations, the Deputy Minister provides executive leadership and operational direction in the design and implementation of strategies, policies and programs that advance reconciliation and improve the socio- economic circumstances of Indigenous peoples and communities.  He/she will promote collaboration, coordination and integration across government toward achievement of a shared vision. 

The Deputy Minister will establish, enhance and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, other levels of government and the private sector.  The Deputy Minister is the Chairperson of the Indigenous Relations Executive Committee, and provides leadership in Manitoba implementing the Path to Reconciliation Act.

The successful candidate for this position will have a post-secondary degree in public or business administration or a related discipline complemented by extensive executive experience in a large multi-faceted organization. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. In-depth experience and a strong understanding of the complex issues involving Indigenous peoples and communities is a must. This should include Indigenous history, culture, current jurisprudence and Constitutional obligations, historical negotiations and treaties. Experience providing advice and direction on drafting and implementing legislation, policies and programs as well as large budget preparation within government estimates processes would be considered an asset.
