Basic Purpose:

The Processing/CI Specialist is responsible for developing, validating and implementing site Continuous Improvement initiatives that align with the Mother Parker's enterprise, with a primary focus in manufacturing and the subsequent inclusion of other functions with the imperative to improve cost competitiveness sustaining the cost reduction through project pipeline replenishment.   This role will provide technical processing expertise to support yield improvement activities, supporting the Product Development and Tea /Coffee Excellence Program and join forces with the Technical Services Manager to establish specific processing de-constraining activities.

Essential Responsibilities / Specific Duties:

Setting Direction

  • Support the Operational Excellence Roadmap by adapting it to the Plant Continuous Improvement Program
  • Lead the development of the Continuous Improvement Program and Roadmap as part of the strategic planning for the site in conjunction with the enterprise.
  • Champion the penetration of lean methodologies and tools to promote the extraction of dollars-in-play.
  • Work directly with the Plant Manager and their Teams to plan, set in motion and execute specific CI projects.
  • Provide technical processing expertise to support yield improvement activities
  • Align CI initiatives with the site key performance indicators to drive SQCDPE improvement.
  • Ensure initiatives are executed in an agile, efficient, and prudent manner.
  • Play a role in supporting the Coffee/Tea Excellence Programs in conjunction with Product Development i.e. roasting, blending, grinding and degassing of coffee
  • Planning and Organizing: Build and Execute Continuous Improvement Program
  • Lead, develop and coordinate value stream mapping activity for the site.
  • Lead a comprehensive pipeline of improvement activity and ensure that execution is effective in each project.
  • Ensure continuity of key continuous improvement systems are present for each project and each value stream, for example: Kaizen, 5S, Visual Factory.
  • Provide technical advice to internal clients and technology partners.
  • Identify, own and champion where CI Systems are required to optimize manufacturing or transactional processes, design and implement the solution ensuring each system is designed for scalability and sustainability.
  • Along with Finance, demonstrate and track key metrics of improvements in each activity and ensure sustainability of projects.
  • Actively encourage, promote and facilitate implementation of creative solutions to ensure quality while delivering lower costs and shorter lead times.
  • Track CI progress and reports out to business on a predetermined frequency.
  • Work with the Technical Services Manager to establish specific processing and de-constraining activities.
  • Driving Results with a Sense of Urgency
  • Understand and can balance prioritization to optimize results across the Operational Framework SQCDPE.
  • Responsible for executing and fulfilling MP's approach to CI.
  • Work with the enterprise following the Lean/Six Sigma Framework as well as framework for driving excellence in Maintenance ("Maintenance Excellence Program").
  • Leverage benchmark's to identify objectives. Ensures sharing and standardization of best practices.
  • Work closely with the engineering and processing teams to drive efficiency and yields in processing and packaging operations.
  • Work with Quality Assurance to identify and monitor process capabilities and align specification targets and ranges with the process as well as identifying areas to improve the process to perform within existing specification ranges.
  • Align with finance to trace and report financial impact of improvements and cost savings opportunities.
  • Propose and implement new methods and processes for existing production systems i.e. Probat DMS, MS AX, Powerplant, control systems.
  • Analyze and define PM requirements vs manufacturer's recommendations, current service intervals and breakdown history.
  • Inspiring and Influencing Others
  • Lead, develop and coordinate continuous improvement transformation plan for plant management and supervisors including charter development and implementation plan.
  • Instill a proactive and lean culture from the plant floor through to plant management.
  • Showcase data driven decision making and advanced problem solving skills.
  • Maximize the involvement of employees in process improvements.
  • Develop relationships with R & D to optimize profiles and processes.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Plant/Production Manager and dotted line reporting to the Operational Excellence Manager. This position has no direct reports.  

Internal Relationships:

Interaction and collaboration will be with cross functional teams including: Human Resources, Maintenance, Manufacturing Systems, Processing, Production, Quality, and R & D.

External Relationships:    

Packaing and equipment suppliers as needed.

     

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Knowledge & Key Competencies (list education requirements and special training / certification requirements here):
  • B.S. in Industrial Eng., Mechanical Eng., Operations Research, Engineering Management with 5+ years of work experience.
  • Certifications: Six Sigma Certification is an asset.
  • Innate ability to fully comprehend new processes and systems quickly, with high attention to detail.
  • Industrial cost control/reporting/analysis experience in high volume manufacturing environments.
  • Outstanding critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Leadership/management experience and/or end-to-end project management experience.
  • Experience with industry-standard problem solving methodologies (LSS, DMAIC).
  • Advance-level MS Office skills (primarily Excel, Power Point, Visio).
  • Experience with any/all of the following: Minitab, Sigma XL, NWA and be able to extract data from SQL database to analyze in SPC software.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as a holistic understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Experienced team leader and trainer.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement Continuous Improvement resulting in positive change.
  • Solid understanding of processing systems.
