Position Summary:

The Event Programmer will be responsible for assisting in event operations and have an active leadership role in the preparation and execution of SFU Athletics Events throughout the 2018-19 varsity season. This position assists the Event Coordinator with fulfilling duties as required, has a passion for NCAA university sport and an interest in event management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Planning – assist in the organization and delivery of Athletics Events throughout the 2018-19 season in areas of staffing, ticketing, merchandise, in-game entertainment, visiting/home team logistics and security.
  • Communication – work closely with the Event Coordinator, varsity coaches and assists game day officials with requests, concerns and ensuring all needs are met
  • Event Logistics – provides a positive experience and outstanding customer service for all varsity game attendees. Upholds high expectations of department and institutional hosting standards
  • Supervise – oversees the operation of varsity events and the events team while establishing relationships with visiting teams, officials and coaching staff
  • Event Execution – monitor and assist with staff recruitment, training and evaluation to ensure event management is performed in compliance with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, NCAA and institutional policies and procedures
  • Collaboration – work as a part of a team with marketing and communications, sports information and other department administrators to share ideas, liaise regarding upcoming event details and provide support where needed
  • Reconciliation – uphold accurate data reports, financial documentation and post event settlements and update documents including game day scripts and attendance records

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic
  • Possess time management and organizational skills with the ability to complete multiple tasks on a strict timeline
  • Able to work individually, as well as part of a team
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, be articulate, collaborate with all levels of management and be a confident role model to effectively lead a team and foster a cooperative work environment
  • Knowledge of sport specific rules and the ability to adhere to policies and procedures of SFU, the conference and NCAA an asset
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service to the public with the ability to resolve conflicts and various event related issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Event management experience an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)

Terms of Employment

The demands of the position are in accordance to the 2018-19 varsity athletic schedule which runs from: Sept. 1, 2018 - Apr. 30, 2019. Ideal start date August. 27th, but can be negotiated.

Approximately 5-15 hours / week of work. Potential to request more hours if required and approved.

Applicants are required to work a varying schedule with preparatory office work during the week and event attendance on evenings and weekends (Thursdays/Saturdays). Also must have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.

Compensation:

$16.62/hr (inclusive of benefits).
