On behalf of our client, Gardewine Group Inc. we are currently recruiting a Senior Accountant to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gardewine provides a cross-Canada fleet of transportation solutions to deliver anything from small parcels and perishable products to bulk goods and equipment. Gardewine’s team of over 1600 staff combined with their large network of terminals and service points ensure that their customers’ freight is delivered at the most cost-effective price, safely and on time.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will assist in the day-to-day financial activities of the company including full cycle accounting, preparation of financial reports, quantitative analysis, and budgeting and financial systems management. The Senior Accountant will work collaboratively with the Finance team to prepare and analyze financial information for both internal and external users. Gardewine is seeking a dynamic individual to play a key role in the finance function of a fast-paced and dynamic organization by working closely with the team to ensure an efficient and effective full cycle accounting operation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Complete assigned month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the bank reconciliation, accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliations, and reviews for reasonableness
  • Prepare analyses on financial and non-financial KPIs and provide value-added insight to the leadership and operational teams
  • Maintain and follow proper accounting methods, policies and principles to strengthen internal control and manage risk
  • Create ad-hoc reports and analyses as needed
  • Perform daily full cycle accounting duties as required
  • Builds solid relationships across all units at various accounting levels and provide support to the various finance functions
  • Effectively communicates within the team, engages colleagues and encourages teamwork and positive culture
  • Works collaboratively with Controller/ Assistant Controller and communicate opportunities and risks to the department
  • Perform special assignments and any other duties as required

Skills & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of full cycle accounting experience
  • Completion of an accounting diploma or degree is considered an asset
  • Well-developed communication and organization skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, and exceptional time-management and organizational skills
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Software, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
