On behalf of our client, Kooyman Group of Companies, we are recruiting for a Chief Financial Officer to join their team located in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Reporting to the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO will play a key strategic role within the organization and is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the financial planning function, related business planning, capital and debt management, budgeting and financial reporting. This position is accountable for performance and continuous improvement of the financial planning processes and efficiencies. This individual will be a crucial member of the executive team providing strategic direction and management of the company’s financial resources.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic, Operational & Financial Planning

  • Participate in developing the strategic plan to advance the company’s mission and objectives, and to promote revenue, profitability and growth of the organization
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Lead the finance and accounting functions including annual budgeting, forecasting, business planning, reporting, capital planning, treasury, foreign exchange management, debt/equity/share management, audits and cost control
  • Translate the strategic and business plans for financial planning and accounting into operational plans
  • Review prior financial results and discuss anticipated changes to highlight future needs and trends
  • Oversee policies determined by the Board and provide regular clear concise reports on the impact of these policies
  • Understand and manage the financial needs and implications associated with acquisition and merger activities
  • Identify within a risk management framework, all risks to the organization, and develop and implement plans to mitigate these risks
  • Develop key and operational performance indicators and targets
  • Provide financial bench marking and operational guidance on farm management and cost containment to operate a highly productive and high-quality operation
  • Develop a process of assessing and reporting on the overall performance of the organization
  • Lead the development of a positive and constructive culture through the facilitation of teamwork, effective change management and ongoing and immediate conflict resolution
  • Manage the overall financial position of the company

Executive Leadership Team Support

  • Working with the General Manager, identify key issues for board deliberations
  • Ensure General Manager and CEO have sufficient and up-to-date financial information
  • Ensure materials that facilitate board analysis of issues and decision-making, are provided for board meetings in a complete and timely manner

Skills & Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in a related field (business administration or agriculture) and a professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) in good standing is required
  • Must have relatable experience in the agriculture industry
  • Must possess 8 - 10 years’ experience in a senior management level financial position
  • Must also demonstrate the following skills through past relevant leadership and management experience: strategic financial stewardship of company resources; exceptional financial planning, analysis and reporting; organization, time management and problem solving; the ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels verbally and in writing; operational performance measurements and improvement
  • Entrepreneurial and strategic business sense, progressive and forward thinker who excels in a fast-paced environment
