Under the direction/supervision of the Director of Care, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the residents and responsible for ensuring that practice and conduct meets legislative requirements and the standards of the profession, as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. RPNs’ practice will also comply with Arbour Heights policies and procedures. The RPN autonomously provides care within a full scope of practice as outlined in the College of Nursing Standards of Practice. The R.P.N. will adhere to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting resident and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Resident/Family Care: The RPN, as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and using the best available evidence, will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care delivered to moderately acute/complex patients, identifying expected outcomes of specific interventions and modifying the plan of care, accordingly.

Team Relationships: The RPN is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team who collaborates with all team members about patient needs. Contributes to the overall functioning of the care team/unit/program. Collaborates with team members to ensure continuity of patient care of moderately acute/complex patients including participation in rounds/report.

Quality Improvement: The RPN is involved in quality improvement initiatives, to meet the needs of our residents. Identifies opportunities for improvement related to safe resident care and service delivery.

Professional Development/Accountability : The RPN is responsible and accountable to identify and respond to personal professional development needs and opportunities. Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.

Organizational Responsibilities : The RPN supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of the organization.
