The Asper Family is in search of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee its family office and charitable foundation operations. This is a unique opportunity to assume a trusted leadership role with broad and challenging responsibilities, requiring an individual with deep financial management expertise, an entrepreneurial mindset, a diverse background, and exemplary ethics and discretion.  It will appeal to someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and highly adaptive– someone who will thrive in a dynamic, less structured environment.

Reporting to Gail Asper, the President of The Asper Foundation, shareholders and family members of The 2005 Asper Corporation, the successful candidate will exercise overall responsibility for the financial operations of The Asper Foundation, the business affairs of Asper family members and stakeholders, and related support services.

The Asper Foundation was established in 1983 by Israel (Izzy) Asper and is the vehicle through which the Asper Family is realizing its philanthropic vision.  The Asper Family office is the vehicle through which the business and financial affairs of the members of the Asper Family are managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall management of family office including establishing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Conduct investment review and management, wealth management, tax planning/compliance, and budgeting.
  •  Wealth management leadership, oversight of portfolio managers, and identification of office priorities and projects.
  •  Lead and manage foundation and family office finance and administrative staff members which include: Tax Accountant, Foundation Accountant, Senior Accountants, Accounts Payable Clerk and Administrative Support.
  • Review and negotiate purchase, sale financing and investment management agreements.
  • Engage and consult with external professionals on various projects.

Selection Criteria

  • CPA-CA designation;
  • Post graduate degree in Business Administration or related discipline would be an asset;
  • 10+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience;
  • 5+ years of senior management experience with 10+ years progressive management experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership success developing, motivating and retaining high-performing people;
  • A generalist with diverse work experience and background;
  • Expertise in non-profit finance, accounting and tax regulations;
  • High degree of ethics and discretion; and
  • Must have excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
