Customs and Compliance Specialist

Job Summary:

This role will manage the compliance policy of the company to ensure compliance to all international import and export laws. The Customs & Compliance Specialist will proactively interact with company internal departments and customs brokers and freight forwarders.


  • Responsible for monitoring all import/export activities and compliance for the company
  • Maintain export/import compliance program and database
  • Implement and perform periodic audits of Customs entries into Canada
  • Maintain log of all Post Entry Corrections to ensure corrective/preventive actions to continually improve process
  • Work with suppliers to determine correct HTS classification and country of origin of all products
  • Research product information to determine proper HS Tariff Numbers, ensuring all supporting documents are maintained on file
  • Maintain NAFTA certificates on file and update as required
  • Identify and resolve any non-compliance issues
  • Prepare all international customs documentation


  • 2 – 4 years in the related trade industry
  • CCS or CTCS Certification is an asset
  • Bilingual: English/French
  • Required Skills/Experience:
    • Experience with HTS Classification
    • Developing interpreting and implementing customs policies and processes in a growing environment
    • Knowledge with country of origin, valuation & invoicing requirements, duty reduction programs
    • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize work
    • Excellent PC Skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Can work within tight deadlines
