On behalf of our client, Fall River Logging Ltd, we are searching for an Office Manager / Accountant to join their well-established and dynamic team in Courtenay, BC. Reporting to the General Manager and working cooperatively with the financial accounting team, the ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial individual that enjoys and excels at a variety of tasks, and has a “roll up the sleeves” personality to get things done. They will also possess leadership skills with the ability to develop and implement new processes where no task is too big or too small.   • Managing and performing various administrative business functions in the operational office
  • Directing and supervising administrative staff
  • Manage all aspects of day to day accounting functions including:
    • Accounts receivables and relationships with customers
    • Accounts payables and relationships with vendors and service providers
    • Payroll in a unionized environment
  • Managing fleet insurance and claims
  • Contract administration
  • Managing Health and Safety Program administration

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of accounting or bookkeeping background
  • Previous hands-on payroll experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office software skills, including Word, Outlook and Excel is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in spoken and written English
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational, analytical, planning and problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while supporting a team environment
  • Strong critical thinking skills with an aptitude for problem solving
  • An understanding of logging and forestry practices, an asset
  • Accounting Diploma or working towards a professional designation, an asset
  • Experience working with individuals at senior levels and providing executive level support, an asset
  • Knowledge of health and safety policies, procedures, governance and administrative systems, an asset
  • Experience working within a unionized environment and understands the workings of a collective agreement
