The Sport Branch provides resources and leverages partnerships to increase participation and achieve excellence in sport and physical activity in British Columbia through the development of public policy, inter/intra governmental partnerships, performance measurement, and sport programs (either directly delivered or through funded agencies). Its key objectives are to increase participation in sport, thereby contributing to healthy, vibrant communities and families, and overall positive health, economic and social outcomes, sustain and increase excellence in sport and to position BC as a sport event hosting destination, thereby contributing to sport, economic, tourism and community development across the province.

As the Manager, Policy and Research, you will coordinate and lead the Branch’s strategic public policy work, with an emphasis on developing and implementing comprehensive research, data analysis and program evaluation, to advance Ministry and sport sector goals of increased and quality sport participation, performance and event hosting and to support the Branch’s approved strategic direction. In this position you will lead and/or assist with policies and strategies related to sport participation and high performance, and you will be a resource for other policy areas including sport event hosting.

If you have an in-depth knowledge of the public sector and the sport system as well as a background in policy and program development, this leadership opportunity is for you.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in sport or recreation, public administration or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum three years demonstrated experience in policy and program development and strategic planning, including analysis and evaluation of public policy and strategies.
  • Experience with project management and leading project teams.
  • Experience with research, data collection/analysis and reporting on findings.
  • Experience in stakeholder and inter-/intra-governmental relations.
