What will you do in this role?

The mechanical design engineer will join a multi-disciplinary R&D team that is continually and rapidly advancing new products from conception to their fully-realized, mature state - deployed around the world as the foundation of the optical internet. 

Contributing successfully will require the imagining of new possibilities and ideas, the ability to bring focused engineering analysis to bear and the practical ability to transform ideas into high-performance, cost-effective products. 

The team works on a variety of different product types: transceiver modules, optical amplifiers, wavelength switches, optical channel monitors and highly-integrated circuit packs. 

This is an opportunity to apply creativity, work on a variety of products and enjoy the satisfactions of design by contributing to the mechanical design concepts and support newly initiated product developments. 

Applying a solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles to develop new solutions and to evaluate the merits and risks of alternative concepts will also be part of this role and when required, efficiently apply FEA and CFD simulation tools such as ANSYS Workbench and Icepak to predict performance. 

Participate as a positive team member, working effectively with colleagues to ensure that design decisions which span multiple disciplines are balanced and optimized for the overall performance, manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of the product. 

Prepare engineering drawings of the required parts and assemblies using 3D solid CAD tools such as SolidEdge and SolidWorks, develop fully-documented detailed mechanical designs of products and the tooling required to fabricate these products. 

What experience will allow you the greatest success in this role?

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of a variety of part fabrication processes, structural mechanics, materials, heat-transfer, cooling of electronics, shock and vibration, EMC, Design for Manufacturability;
  • Demonstrated track record of applying excellent design judgment and engineering skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently apply attention to detail in pursuit of high quality;
  • Proficient in the use of 3D solid modeling mechanical CAD tool such as SolidWorks or SolidEdge;
  • Experience in the design of production tooling.
