The Minister of Justice, as represented by the Attorney General, is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Attorney General in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB’s clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.

The Finance, Commercial and Transportation Group at LSB invites applications for one permanent, full-time Legal Secretary position.

Duties include:

  • Providing legal secretarial and administrative assistance to solicitors in the preparation of correspondence, contracts and other transactions;
  • Coordinating schedules for meetings;
  • Coordinating travel arrangements;
  • Maintaining bring forward system(s) to ensure that deadlines are not missed;
  • Organization of communications, large volumes of filing and significant file management of large, complex files.
  • Facilitating a pro-active approach to the work is essential.
  • Working knowledge of BC Online, myLTSA and conveyancing procedures would be an asset.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, a high level of initiative, self-motivation and flexibility are required, as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize is essential. The successful candidates must be able to work independently and together as a team. Qualifications for this role include:

  • Secondary school graduation and a combination of four years related education, training and administrative support/clerical experience in a legal environment;
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have completed a recognized legal secretary program;
  • Experience relating to solicitors’ practice; and
  • Preference may be given to those applicants with corporate-commercial and/or transactional experience.
