The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) is the Province’s land manager, responsible for the stewardship of Crown land, cultural and natural resources.  Within this broad portfolio, the delivery of public services is significantly enhanced through the application of effective community engagement practices.  These practices cultivate trust and respect and develop a common understanding of natural resources issues and decisions.  With some of the highest correspondence volumes in the provincial government, FLNRO requires innovative and flexible engagement techniques to support and enhance collaboration and consultation with First Nations, communities and stakeholders.

This role will be a go-to resource for expert advice on public, First Nations and stakeholder engagement in the Skeena Region, and will have a high degree of interaction with FLNRO staff in both regional and district offices.  This will require an understanding of, and participation in, operational program delivery across a range of natural resource fields as well as working with central communications agencies on broader public engagement issues.  This position will also provide specialized expertise in designing and implementing tools and strategies that enable communities to learn about, and be engaged in, the work of FLNRO.
Qualifications for this role include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Resource Management-related field.  Preference may be given to a Master’s in Natural Resource Management   A Bachelor’s degree in a Communications or Community Engagement related field may be considered if accompanied by significant experience in an operational natural resource management context.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.  This includes a diploma in the fields identified above.
  • Two years of experience developing and applying community engagement tools and strategies.
  • Experience managing projects and working with project teams.
  • Experience applying strategic and conceptual thinking to effectively communicate and engage on complex and contentious issues and achieve the desired outcome(s).
  • Preference may be given to experience applying structured decision making principles (or equivalent) and resolving conflicts in a manner that satisfies multiple interests.
