Project Controller

On behalf of our client, North Delta Seafoods Ltd., established in 1978, we are searching for a Project Controller to join their team. Located in Delta, BC, wild seafood fishing within the North Pacific Coast is the heart of their business. At North Delta Seafoods, their tradition of fishing in the cool waters of the North Pacific guarantees their commitment to provide only the freshest and most natural wild seafood products to customers worldwide. Their detailed chain of custody makes them accountable to deliver excellence in quality from the fishing fleet and processing plant, to packaging and final delivery to the customer. We are seeking an energetic, well-organized and strategic individual who is interested in lending to the success of the organization.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Project Controller is an integral part of the leadership team and responsible for ensuring the timely and relevant monitoring and reporting of the overall financial performance for the organization. Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze monthly operation results against forecast and budget
  • Analyze and advise on revenue, expenses and balance sheet items
  • Setup cost models and analyze production costs to determine profit and loss
  • Manage the Navision ERP system, including data entry and reporting, manage inventory reconciliation, valuation and reconcile projects
  • Develop and document processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and manage risk
  • Prepare and maintain financial metrics for reporting; manage and deliver all internal and external reporting
  • Prepare all documentation and work with external accountants on year-end, taxation, and related functions
  • Prepare job summary statements, review payroll accounts, prepare T4’s, review and approve accounts payable
  • Review and approve fish settlements
  • Analyze, prepare and review financial statements for new and existing joint ventures
  • Support and/or lead special projects as required

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education, a CPA designation and a minimum of five years’ experience in financial analytics
  • Excellent understanding of financial management, accounting principles and internal controls specific to a small family owned business / joint venture dynamic
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to communicate financial information and business risks that influence positive change
  • Experience working within the food processing, manufacturing, packaging and distribution industry is an asset
  • Ability to recognize and communicate efficiency opportunities and implement new processes
  • Excellent knowledge of purchasing, receiving, inventory flow and process improvement
  • Experience working with an ERP system, including data entry and reporting, specifically Navision
  • Experience performing cost accounting and inventory analysis
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong internal/external relationships based on trust and integrity
  • Advanced analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced experience using the Microsoft suite of programs; specifically, Excel
  • Willingness to roll your sleeves up and have an all hands-on deck when required attitude
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast pace time sensitive seasonal environment
  • Is viewed as a trusted, loyal and supportive leader
