Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects according to schedule, specifications and budget;
  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates
  • Ensuring that construction milestones are met and monitoring progress against established schedules;
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with contractors, suppliers and subcontractors;
  • Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff;
  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates
  • Participate in engineering package reviews during the select, define and execute phases of the build project and provide constructive input to the design team;
  • Oversee the Project Coordinator to ensure:
    • Compliance with the safety-assurance plan so that work is accomplished in an environmentally sound manner using safe work practices;
    • Problem resolution encountered in the field eliminates costly rework or retesting;
    •  All work is performed per plans and specifications;
    • Proposed construction and work methods are clearly understood and accepted and ensure agreement on environmental and safety work plans for permitting;
    • Project timelines and key deliverables being met;
    • Equipment and manpower resources are being used efficiently;
    • Contractor work performance is meeting project requirements;
    • Process safety management (PSM) and management of change (MOC) control;
    • Post Project appraisal review and report (lessons learned) is completed.
  • Requirements regarding field design modifications, scope changes and change plans from current to new greenhouse operations are approved by executive and delivered on:
  • Optimal greenhouse design with a low carbon imprint for medical cannabis;
  • Strategy design and successful implementation of tactics/processes on automation deliver maximum productivity and profitability;
  • Successful implementation of change plan to transition current greenhouse operation to new.
  • Oversight for all facilities functions to maintain optimal functionality
  • Supervise 5-10 people, contractors and staff in various areas of responsibilities.
  • Budgetary responsibility of over $8 Million

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, under pressure, tight deadlines with attention to details.
  • A proven expertise in how medicinal marijuana production facilities operate;
  • Minimum 10 years’ of progressive experience in strategic construction project management within the food and/or medicinal marijuana and/or pharmaceutical industry, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience successfully managing construction projects involving the building of medical marijuana production facilities;
  • Excellent working knowledge in mechanical engineering discipline to ensure facilities function as they should, with minimal downtimes;
  • Ability to partner with Operations, Quality Assurance and other functional leads to deliver service excellence;
  • A proven expertise in building and maintaining successful relationships with government regulators, including strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations for construction projects;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in assessing and reviewing business processes to identify options, best practices and opportunities to improve service delivery;
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare process documents, policies and project documents (e.g. business case, feasibility study, budget estimates, etc.);
  • Strong working knowledge of design and construction related procurement practices and procedures;
  • Strong facilitation and negotiation skills with demonstrated success in communicating at all levels in organization.
  • Ability to supervise 5-10 staff and contractors in various responsibilities.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schemas and drawings.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Word, AutoCAD, MS Excel as well as MS Office and MS Outlook
  • Proven experience with safety equipment and industrial health and safety
  • Expertise in environmental control equipment, greenhouse production programs and preventive maintenance of machinery and equipment

Required Education:

  • At least a High School diploma
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, First Aid Certificate / CPR certificate, Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, Ground Disturbance Level I and Level II Program.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Confidential security clearance (Ability to obtain an A/RPIC), Criminal record check
