The School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada is seeking a postdoctoral teaching fellow or an ABD sessional lecturer to teach three courses over the 2017–2018 school year. The position is full-time and runs from September 1, 2017–April 30, 2018. The candidate will likely teach, in the fall term, one required history course and, depending on the strengths of the candidate, preferably one introductory Master of Architecture studio, or an elective course, and in the spring term, one required history course. This teaching will be part of a re-launched history/theory course sequence for Master of Architecture students that shifts away from survey courses toward seminar-style courses on more focused topics. The position is intended to give promising early-career scholars the opportunity to develop their independent scholarship and teaching portfolio, while also participating in the life of the school through reviews and other SALA events.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in the history of architecture (for Postdoctoral Fellow position), or be ABD (All But Dissertation, for Sessional position). Ideally, the candidate will also have a design background to be able to teach an introductory level Master of Architecture studio. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. no earlier than July 1, 2012.

The topics can be focused or thematic and do not need to be survey courses. Each history course will include one (1 ½ hour) lecture per week, and (1 ½ hour) discussion section, with one or two sections run concurrently with teaching assistants.
