The Ministry of Health’s Compensation Policy and Programs Branch (CPPB) is looking for a Senior Medical Consultant to support the administration and ongoing improvement of the Medical Services Commission (MSC) Payment Schedule and Medical Services Plan (MSP) compensation policies and procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a physician looking to provide leadership and professional expertise for MSP.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Medical Consultant provides advice and support in the management of issues related to the MSC Payment Schedule, including but not limited to, developing recommendations on behalf of MSP on proposed amendments to the payment schedule; consultative advice and direction with respect to adjudicating medical claims; identifying potential audit activities; and, assisting in the development of administrative policy. This position will work and network with professional committees of peers, including representatives from the Doctors of BC, and physicians in other jurisdictions.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • M.D. or equivalent
  • Must be licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CoPSBC) to practice medicine in BC.  Physicians not currently licensed by the CoPSBC must be eligible to register with the College.
  • At least 5 years clinical experience. 
  • Experience in government or medical administration will be considered an asset. 
  • Preference may be given for familiarity with any of the following; the health care system in BC and Canada; familiarity with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and the structure and function of the DoBC; and a broad understanding of the MSC Payment Schedule.
  • Considerable experience in handing potentially controversial or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
