HighStreet Accommodations Ltd. is a successful and growing hospitality management company that supplies furnished accommodations to our clients and guests.  HighStreet is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Maintenance Technician Supervisor to join our professional operations team.  This is a full-time, permanent position based out of the company's head office in Burnaby, BC, and requires daily travel to our various accommodation sites throughout the Metro Vancouver area.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Maintenance Technician Supervisor assists the Maintenance team with planning, coordination, scheduling, logistics and project management, as well as supervising the work of the operations technicians.  The position requires the incumbent to plan project and work schedules; assign, review and revise the daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/semi-annual/annual maintenance, repairs and required work at HighStreet's furnished, unfurnished and special project inventories.  Specific duties include:

  • Planning and managing the Maintenance team's activities, including scheduling and assigning work orders;
  • Supervising the work of the maintenance technicians;
  • Planning, scheduling and managing the seasonal, recurring and preventive maintenance required to keep the company's inventory in excellent condition;
  • Overseeing and directing the set-up, maintenance, repair and tear-down of our furnished corporate housing inventory (in excess of 250 units throughout the Lower Mainland);
  • Planning and managing the Maintenance team's budget;
  • Establishing objectives for the Maintenance team and formulating/approving policies and programs;
  • Developing and implementing schedules and procedures for safety inspections and preventive maintenance programs;
  • Planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the activities and operations of the Maintenance team;
  • Representing the company in vendor, supplier and contractor/subcontractor negotiations;
  • Assisting in the preparation of controls and negotiating revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with vendors, suppliers and contractors/subcontractors;
  • Administering contracts for the provision of supplies and services;
  • Assigning, coordinating, supervising and reviewing the technical work of the Maintenance technicians;
  • Recruiting personnel and overseeing development and maintenance of staff competence;
  • Resolving customer complaints, vendor/supplier issues and owner-vendor concerns;
  • Preparing and submitting maintenance-related project budget estimates;
  • Planning and preparing project schedules and milestones, and monitoring progress against established schedules;
  • Developing and implementing quality control programs; and
  • Preparing progress reports and issuing progress schedules to owner-vendors.

REQUIREMENTS

Three to five years' experience in the trades/general construction/maintenance, specifically electrical education/training and experience, including supervisory/management experience, is required for this position.  Demonstrated experience with contract negotiations and preparing budget estimates is also required.  In addition to electrical training/experience, must have basic carpentry skills and experience with minor plumbing and similar repairs.  Hospitality/accommodation industry experience preferred.  Must be able to communicate (read/write/speak) effectively in English, and have exceptional and demonstrated customer service skills and a professional presentation.  Clean Class 5 driver's license required.  Must be willing and able to travel to the company's various sites throughout Metro Vancouver on a daily basis.  Must have own vehicle - suited to maintenance work and in good mechanical and cosmetic repair - for daily use in connection with job responsibilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The position pays between $23.00 and $26.00 per hour, based on experience and on a 40 hour work week.  Company benefits - available after successful completion of a three month probationary period - include extended health/dental/travel medical coverage, pay direct drug cards, life and critical illness insurance, and long-term disability insurance.  Three weeks' vacation per year.  Mileage is paid at $0.54 per kilometre when travelling to company accommodation sites.
